Lemon Tuna Spaghetti

Bright and bold flavors combined with bounties from the sea defines Mediterranean cooking. This simple recipe dives into your pantry and draws from everyday ingredients to transport you to the sunny shores of European beachside villages that can be found along the Mediterranean Sea.



The Necessary Ingredients


  • 1/2 package of spaghetti (about 8 to 10 ounces)

  • 6 ounces of canned tuna in olive oil

  • 1 large garlic clove, finely chopped

  • Grated zest of 1 medium lemon

  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained

  • 1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, chopped



How to Put It All Together


  1. Drain canned tuna and place in a heat-proof bowl. Add garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and capers and stir gently to combine.

  2. In a pot, boil salted water for pasta. Place the bowl on top of the pot to warm the ingredients while the water is heating up. When the water comes to a boil, remove bowl and set aside.

  3. Cook the spaghetti in large pot according to package instructions or until al dente. Drain pasta well and immediately add to sauce in bowl. Sprinkle with parsley and toss. Add additional salt and pepper to taste. For extra heat, add crushed red pepper flakes.
